About PenPeg

Our Mission

PenPeg was founded with a simple yet powerful mission: to be a home for pen lovers everywhere, and to help writers choose, use, and enjoy their tools with more confidence — through approachable guidance and free tools that make picking a fountain pen, matching an ink to the right paper, choosing a nib size, and building a journaling routine clearer, more rewarding, and more practical.

We believe that every writer, from a first-time fountain-pen buyer to a seasoned collector, deserves access to accurate tools, comprehensive resources, and trustworthy guidance. Our platform bridges the gap between conflicting advice and confident, well-informed decisions about fountain, gel and rollerball pens, nibs and inks, stationery and paper, journaling and calligraphy, and the everyday desk gear that makes writing a pleasure.

Through our free collection of tools, we help writers make informed decisions about nib sizes, line width, ink and paper pairings, and building a writing kit. Every tool is designed with real-world applicability in mind, tested against the day-to-day realities of writing, and continuously improved based on user feedback. To go deeper, explore our Museum of Writing Instruments, with galleries on fountain pens and nibs, inks and inkwells, quills and reed pens, the pencil and the ballpoint, and the calligraphy and scripts they set down.

Our Story

PenPeg emerged from a need we experienced firsthand. While trying to sort through conflicting advice and scattered references, we noticed a common challenge: the lack of accessible, accurate tools for the everyday decisions that come with a new pen — choosing a nib, matching an ink to a paper, and getting the most out of every writing session.

Great writing relies heavily on curiosity and a little know-how, which are invaluable. However, a confident writer also benefits from clear answers about which nib suits their hand, how an ink behaves on a given paper, why a line feathers or ghosts, and how to keep a pen writing smoothly for years. We saw an opportunity to combine well-researched knowledge about pens and ink with modern tools to help writers make confident choices at every stage.

Our team began developing tools that we wished existed when we bought our first fountain pens. Each calculator and guide was created to solve real problems encountered at the desk — from swatching inks to comparing nib widths and paper weights. We tested every tool against real-world figures, refined the logic based on feedback, and ensured that the results reflect current, widely accepted stationery and penmanship conventions.

Today, PenPeg serves active users worldwide, from first-time pen buyers to experienced collectors. Our tools have helped writers choose nibs, pair inks and papers, plan writing kits, and make more deliberate, confident decisions about the tools they write with.
