"Bottled ink is cheaper than cartridges" is repeated so often in fountain pen circles that it's worth actually running the numbers instead of taking it on faith. The math is simple once you see it worked out, and the gap turns out to be bigger than most people expect.
The cartridge math
Say you buy a six-pack of ink cartridges for $12, and each cartridge is rated for roughly 200 pages of normal handwriting. Shipping and minimum-order costs: the hidden variable in online ink buying
