Brush Pens vs. Alcohol Markers for Journaling: Which Ones Bleed Through Your Notebook

Adding color to a bullet journal spread or a hand-lettered header usually means reaching for either a brush pen or an alcohol-based marker, and the choice matters a lot more than it looks like on the shelf — one of these will typically soak straight through an ordinary notebook page, and the other usually won't. The difference comes down to what's actually dissolving the pigment, not the brand or the price.
Water-based brush pens: pigment carried in water
Water-based brush pens — the flexible-tip pens commonly used for hand lettering and journaling — carry dye or pigment in a water-based liquid, similar in principle to gel or fountain pen ink but delivered through a soft, flexible brush nib instead of a ball or metal tip.
